This Week’s Episode…

This weeks episode is going to be rather straight forward and news filled. I know how much people hate when we do an all news show filled with talk of revenue streams and the like but I expect it to be rather insightful and fun at the same time. However, we’d love your input!
If you have any thing to say or a take on anything that happened at Anime Expo, have a con report from Anime Expo or have something to say on the whole Funimation situation send a voice mail or an email in and we’d be happy to bring it up on the show. Sadly, any other voicemail or email is going to be brushed to next weeks episode.
Also, anyone looking for a review this week will be sad to know that we won’t be doing a review in this weeks episode. However, in the feed this week will be a Full Series Review SHAFT for The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Next weeks episode will feature a double review of Batman: Gotham Knight and Gurren Laggen.
As always, if you want to catch the action LIVE check this blog at around 7pm Eastern(or earlier) and we will have our UStream feed ready to go.

Funimation to Distribute select Established Geneon and ADV Titles!!!!(UPDATED)

It seems the rumors have now become FACT! Established Geneon titles are now going to officially be handled by Funimation as of today. This is also going to include titles which were actively produced but not released on DVD including, Black Lagoon Second Barrage, Karin, Kyo kara Maoh! Season 2, and Lyrical Nanoha.
This is huge news as a large amount of anime will soon come back to the North American market once again. Did series you were collecting get cut off by the downfall of Geneon? Are you excited for the prospect of collecting series that were no longer available to you? Let us know! Contact us and let us know what you think!
UPDATE(July 4):
Coming one day later after gaining a serious back log from Geneon, Funimation has acquired 30 titles previously licensed by ADV. These titles are from ARM Corporation in Japan and hold the original licenses. The majority of the titles are ones that were removed from ADV’s website back in January, and were later restored… only to be moved off again. The only title conspicuously absent from the list is 5cm per Second.
This is huge news for Funimation who has almost doubled their catalog of titles and bad news for ADV who has had nothing but set backs since the ADV/Geneon merger went sour. ADV is reporting out of AX they are in negotiations for a large amount of new titles however with news like this acquiring new titles may be easier said then done.

Funimation Goes YouTubing!

In a bold move, Funimation has gone the route of heading to YouTube to place trailers, promo material and eventually full episodes. Of the titles Funi is planning on putting up we have… Blue Gender, Slayers, Peach Girl, Mushi-Shi, and Kiddy Grade announced thus far.
While Funimation is citing they’re the first company attemping the YouTube waters… I believe ADV has been at this for a while.
I look forward as to how this will work for Funimation but it seems they learned something from their Japanese counterparts… after complaining about video streaming sites.
However, it looks nice thus far. I’ve never been a fan of Funimation’s trailers but this seems like a nice way to get out their other media.
If you’re interested, check it out.
Comments are off for this postListeners that are going to Anime Expo…
Just got some info in this afternoon (too late for the podcast) and letting you peeps know that if any of you are heading on over the Anime Expo this weekend head on over to artist alley where Ryan (not Kyle) will be there to show his art.
You can check him out at section D43.
*UPDATE*
If any of you are heading on over to AX and decide to go see Ryan, mention “Anime SHAFT” and he might just draw something for you!
Episode #72- Going Under?! The Sinking Mail Bag!!

We talked a little bit about the end of Kanokon and our hope for a second series, Gene’s problem with the inability to dub a fantasy anime, L33tStr33t Boys, and the new blog content.
After we hit the mail bag and what a hefty mailbag it was. We talked about BERSERK and Claymore, talked about how Chris has a lack of conversation, feedback from last episode regarding both manga and under the radar anime. We finished up with a question about Buso Renkin that Matt wasn’t here to answer.
On our main topic of the day, we talked about the apparent decline in ADV citing the fall of PiQ, the licensing snafus, and the office auctions. We talked about what was going wrong for the anime giant and what they can do to make things right. A good ol’ fashioned talk about the anime industry it was.
After talking about some rereleased box sets hitting shelfs, we went on to review Desert Punk. Its like Mad Max, without the cars…. and with better girls…. and goofier characters. Honestly, if you’re into a zany teen and up comedy with a semi-post apocalyptic plot this is your series and we urge you to check it out!
Big thanks to Clint and other fine contributers who make this show better in their own unique and awesome ways!!

Those of us here at SHAFT are fans of Witchblade and its creator, Michael Turner. However, it was sad to see that on Sunday that Mr. Turner had passed of complications due to cancer. The anime and manga versions of Witchblade were inspired from the original graphic novel work.
Its always sad to hear of news like this.
